Long time, no post

The whole idea of buying an older home, fixing it up - I'm still enjoying that (for the most part). But the concept of blogging about the process quickly lost it's luster. Take before pics, do project, clean up, take more photos, edit photos, write entry - how do people do it? But I'm still trying to give it a go. Bob has been pushing me to "take pictures for the blog!" so there will be some posts soon.

Below is the list of projects we've completed since we bought the house on April 30th. Some are small, some bigger, but I'm happy with the progress made so far. Also, thanks to both our families, who helped us with several projects!

MAY 2010

• Kitchen
• Test water for lead
• Scrub all cupboards, reattach hardware, line drawer bottoms (started)
• Throughout
• Paint closets (1 of 11 complete)
• Basement
• Attach draft hood to water heater, seal around water heater flue with mortar
• Clean laundry room
• Exterior
• Take down TV antenna and satellite dish
• Add flue caps to chimney
• Start compost bin
• Downstairs bathroom
• Replace shower head

JUNE 2010

• Kitchen
• Scrub all cupboards, reattach hardware, line drawer bottoms (finished)
• Hook water up to fridge
• Throughout
• Paint closets (2 of 11 complete)
• Garage
• Have garage door opener, new springs, safety cables installed
• Sweep/clean out
• Basement
• Demo "bedroom" floor
• Clean lint from dryer duct
• Fix venting for bath fan
• Throughout
• Install smoke and carbon monoxide detectors

JULY 2010

• Blue Bedroom
• Hang curtains
• Pink bedroom
• Paint walls/ceiling
• Downstairs Bath
• Remove old caulk and re-caulk tub
• Garage
• Tear out work bench/shelves at S side

• Clean bathroom
• Install float in floor drain
• Start demo of walls and closets

• Paint closets (3 of 11 complete)

AUGUST 2010

• Peach Bedroom
• Remove carpet
• Basement
• Continue demo of walls and closets
• Fix basement windows (2 of 3)
• Grind down nails in floor
• Exterior
• Patch crack in porch
• Fix faucet on front of house
• Remove wild violets from front garden
• Remove/cut up stumps on N side of house
• Plant 2 Astilbe in front garden
• Plant 2 Barberry bushes on N side of house
• Put in solar lights
• Kitchen
• Hang curtains

SEPTEMBER 2010

• Basement
• Continue demo of walls and closets
• Mop floor/walls (started)
• Fix basement windows (3 of 3)
• Take down bulging N bathroom wall
• Get dehumidifier
• Upstairs Bathroom
• Fix leaky tub faucet
• Downstairs Bathroom
• Install dual flusher
• Exterior
• Cement off water reservoir tube
• Scrape/sand/prime garage door
• Throughout
• Paint closets (4 of 11 complete)

It's a pretty good start, if I do say so myself! We're planning a bunch of projects for October (including a small contracted project) so hopefully I can find some time for posts about them.
